Breaking news: The Southside Sucks!

It has been brought to my attention today that going to the S. Side on a weekend night at say, 11:00, sucks more than anything that you can imagine sucking.

It's been a jolly couple of years where i have stealthily avoided Carson St. between 13th and 18th, between the hours of 8 pm and 3 am. Not tonite, my friends. Although i have to admit that it makes for some good people watching. I think that this area of town may be a fluke of nature, where for some reason the temperature seems higher in proportion to the amount of brain cells that you are missing. it's the one area of the country where i have seen cats walking around in tube tops in snow, etc. Tonight was no exception.

However, I DID go to the MOST AMAZING Cambodian restaurant that i've ever been to. EVER. remember that old mexican place on like, the corner of 17th? I'd only been there once, it wasn't bad. anyway, apparently it closed, and "Cambod-Ican" (supposedly Cambodian/American fusion, but the menu is straight Cambodian) is now in it's place. This place. was straight up. Amazing....I briefly googled some reviews, but i don't have the attention span after this weirdo night. here's one, but i missed the boat on the food cart, have no idea where i was, because Jody O. and i used to totally park our booters on the curb in front of Tom's for hours on end like, 3 years ago.

It's so sweet. There's this dood in a leather cowboy hat that apparently runs the place. they're open until 3 am. it took FOREVER to get our food, and it all came at different times, but that's because they totally just make it all straight up. i had these steamed rice noodles with tofu, and it was the most amazing thing ever. i tried some ov everyone's shiz, it was AWESOME. definately going back. it's very neighborhoody and fun. and definately hilarious to watch drunk idiots cheeze it up outside. kind of like eating a slice at Vesuvio's? know what i mean?

Anyway, sorry for the non-posting. it's the work thing, i'm totally thrown off. so get used to it. Mayhaps you get one big meaty post a week now? although my super awesome tastes for links and hilarity cannot possibly be smushed into one post...

The other day I asked Bess what she was doing on Saturday, assuming that she'd be working. She told me that her brother's friend from high school (her bro is a musician) was in town touring with some band. She also told me that he spent a lot of time touring with James Brown and he was "the real deal", so we both assumed that it would be some hot swanky jazz thing. At some place called Shadyside Academy. Now, this sounded like a school to us, so we thought it would be like, some fund raising shit that some rich swank people wanted to do, jazz style. oh how wrong we were....

I know most of you are laughing at this first red flag. yes, "Shady Side Academy" is a school. not in Shadyside. it's in freaking Bethel Park. It's a boarding school.

the "band" that dood was playing with was some band from Florida called "Sister Hazel", whom i had NEVER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE heard of. a quick google on the tour bus (yes, i know you're dying. i spent hour upon hour tonite on Sis Hazel's tour bus.) gave me a clue (sounds like blues traveler???? WHA???)

so yeah. we went to what was essentially a high school hang, with some band that apparently i missed the boat on, because i'd never heard of them or HEARD them in my entire life. You know, sometimes when funny things happen to me, i kind of journalistically narrate them in my head. this did seem a lot more hilarious in my head while it was going on. now it just seems kind of lame and sad. and i really can't convey how looooooooong it was.

But, hey. it was definately, um, something different. and i got a free hamburger. because, as i told the 16 year old on the grill, "we're with the band". and i thought i would never, ever freaking EVER have to say that again in my life.

but i did also get to experience this awesome cambodian restaurant, and hang out at a bar (not joking) called Finn McCool's with my buddy Josh. It was the most soberly weird night of my life in a long time...

oh and p.s. here are some shots of bess and i enjoying a REAL freaking DEAL tour bus. redonk.

I had to work at One Wall on Wednesday. so here's what was facing me on the lame corp. jet:

I said nothing about it on the way up.

on the way back, there was a lull in conversation, and Brian turned to me and said, "Kate. I know that today was really long and stupid. Just so you know, the Svimvests are oonder dem seetz". I think i cried a little bit.

I noticed on friday, that sometimes coffee smells like hot dogs? maybe when it's burning? anyway:

meat water (metafilter)

watch every episode of arrested development. May have already linked to this. I know what I’m doing this weekend!

AMAZING mini art. I love things that are the wrong size. This is the most incredible thing I’ve seen in a long time. I LOVE it!!!! I’m so freaking creeped out now. Awesome. this is so freaking awesome. (it also helps if there is no traffic on your street, for once, and your computer is making this gurguly white noise sound. creepy!)

Trying to get The Tudors off my comp. I can never figure this crap out.
